Born in Els Alamús in 1968.
She holds a degree in Catalan Philology from the University of Barcelona (1986-1991) with a postgraduate in Linguistic Planning from the University of Barcelona (1991-1992).
She has worked at Xarxa Cultural (1986-1990) and at the Consortium for Language Normalisation (1990-2003 and 2018-2023) holding a number of posts, the last one as head of the Sant Martí district at the Barcelona Centre for Language Normalisation.
Co-author of the work entitled "Entre l'esperança i el neguit, El català a Catalunya, Coneixements, usos, actituds i identitats lingüístiques", winner ex aequo of the 1st Jaume Camp Prize in Sociolinguistics.
Member of L'Hospitalet de Llobregat Town Council from May 2003 to January 2004.
Minister for Welfare and Family Affairs of the Government of Catalonia from December 2003 to May 2006. Member of the Parliament of Catalonia for four terms, from 2006 to 2018, during which time she was spokesperson for the Esquerra Republicana parliamentary group, first vice-president of the Parliamentary Bureau and, subsequently, first secretary. She was prosecuted and sentenced for disobedience for having allowed, as a member of the committee, the processing of the referendum law.
From 11 June 2018 to 30 June 2021, she chaired the School Council of Catalonia, the highest body for consultation and participation of the sectors affected in the general programming of non-university education within the Administration of the Generalitat.
