The Government of Catalonia voices its consternation for the tragedy of the MH17 flight and expresses its condolences to the families and friends of the victims. The Secretariat for Foreign and European Union Affairs has sent condolence messages to the Governments of the victims’ countries.
The Secretariat for Foreign and European Union Affairs activated yesterday its emergency protocol in case that any of the victims was a Catalan citizen, considering that this flight is commonly taken by Europeans travelling to South East Asia. Later news confirmed that there were no Catalans amongst the passengers.
The Government of Catalonia hopes that a rigorous and independent investigation will shed light on the causes of this catastrophe and, if further investigation discards a technical problem, identify those responsible for the tragedy.
