Former Member of the Catalan Parliament, Mireia Canals, was appointed as the new Secretary General for the Pyrenees-Mediterranean Euroregion last Monday in Barcelona.
 
Canals left her seat in Parliament to assume her new position as Secretary General with the important task of ensuring that the presence of this regional cooperation project resonates throughout European institutions. Her duty as Secretary General will be to develop new projects focused on sustainable development within the north-western Mediterranean region.
 
The Pyrenees-Mediterranean Euroregion, or EPM, is an international organization composed of the governments of Catalonia, Balearic Islands, Midi-Pyrénées and the Languedoc-Roussillon region. Set up in 2004, this territorial grouping aims to develop cultural, environmental, inter-university and innovation projects through political cooperation of these regional governments.
 
Mireia Canals is a former representative and spokesperson of the Foreign Affairs and European Union Committee at the Parliament of Catalonia. She has a degree in English Language and Literature and a PhD in audiovisual communications. She is a professor at the University of Vic and at the Escola Superior de Cinema i Audiovisuals de Catalunya (ESCAC).
