President Mas condemns the attack in Copenhagen

  • President Mas condemns the attack in Copenhagen which took place during an event defending the freedom of expression
The President of the Generalitat expressed his “strongest condemnation” on behalf of the entire Catalan Government for the attack that took place this afternoon in Copenhagen during an event defending the freedom of expression.

The Chief Executive conveyed his “solidarity and condolence”, on behalf of the entire nation of Catalonia, to the victims affected by the assault and whished for the “successful recovery” of the injured police officers who were “injured in the line of duty”.

The Government of Catalonia particularly laments the fact that the assault took place during an event defending the right to freedom of expression. “Ideas”, stressed President Mas, “can only be defended through democracy and peaceful attitudes”. “Freedom of expression is a right that no person can attack and we must protect it above all else because it is one of the basic pillars of our society” highlighted the President.

The Executive will officially pass on his solidarity with the Danish authorities in light of the severe occurrence and hopes the authorities in Denmark detain those responsible for the attack.
