Today, the President of Catalonia, Artur Mas, met with Prime Minister Robert Fico of Slovakia who is on an official visit to Catalonia for the inauguration of the new Transmesa plant in Arenys de Mar (Barcelona).

The Chief Executive, together with Foreign and EU Affairs Secretary Roger Albinyana, received the Slovakian head of government at the Girona-Costa Brava airport, where they later discussed Catalan-Slovak investment in both countries. They also discussed their respective economic circumstances as well as the electoral processes that both Catalonia and Slovakia will encounter in the near future. Additionally, upon invitation by the Prime Minister to visit Slovakia, Artur Mas expressed his desire to travel to the Slavic state when possible.

Furthermore, relations between Catalonia and Slovakia appeared to have strengthened with the establishment of the new Government Delegation in Austria last February.

Slovakia’s Zeleziarne Podbrezova acquired Transmesa, a precision steel tube manufacturer, in 2008 together with its facilities in Sant Ramon and Premià de Mar. The latter has been relocated to Arenys de Mar after a 12 million euro investment by the Slovak group.
