Smart Train Day
On Wednesday 18th November, Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya, together with the firm IDP and the rail cluster Railgrup, is organising the 3rd Smart Train Day. The purpose of this event, created by FGC in 2013, is to debate and consider aspects related to smart rail management through the application of technology and innovation to improve efficiency and sustainability in the region.

The programme for this year’s event revolves around the concept of smart mobility applied to the rail environment and deals with key aspects such as efficiency and quality of service in transport through the use of the latest technological advances. The four sessions to be held during Smart Train Day will approach the different international smart experiences in metropolitan rail operations, trends and initiatives in smart mobility at European level and experience with Velaro high-speed trains. A debate session is also planned on the implementation of Wi-Fi networks on metropolitan trains.

In this programme attendees will be able to find out about the latest developments and experiences in Spain and internationally from different rail companies and institutions. People interested in attending the event can sign up on the website www.smarttrainday.cat.

This year’s event, which is sponsored by Siemens and supported by Ideograms, ESADE and Light Eyes, will be taking place as part of BcnRail, the international rail industry fair at Fira de Barcelona, from 17th to 19th November 2015 on the Gran Via site.  This year, the BcnRail fair, now in its fifth edition, stresses smart mobility, dealing with topics including smart technology, access to new markets and international projects and goods logistics.

The holding of FGC Smart Train Day as part of BcnRail coincides with the fifth Smart City Expo World Congress, an international meeting on smart cities that is to bring more than 500 cities together in Barcelona to discuss the challenges of urban transformation while ensuring sustainability. This coincidence of dates helps to make the event organised by FGC into a key date in the sphere of sustainable mobility and the rail industry.
