The President of the Government of Catalonia, Carles Puigdemont, observed five minutes of silence today at the University of Barcelona for the victims of Sunday’s road accident in Freginals. President Puigdemont joined other institutional representatives including the president of the Parliament of Catalonia, Carme Forcadell, the rector of the University of Barcelona (UB), Dídac Ramírez and the Mayor of Barcelona, Ada Colau.

After the five minutes of silence, President Puigdemont visited the area of mourning set up by the UB and signed the book of condolences. Today’s tribute was held at the University of Barcelona as the victims were all Erasmus students at the same university of the Catalan capital. The area of mourning is currently located inside the Historic Building and will remain opened until 10pm of Wednesday March 23rd for the victims’ friends and relatives.

In declarations to the press, President Puigdemont conveyed his deepest condolences to the victims and their families as well as his sympathies to Barcelona’s “university community […] who feel yesterday’s losses as their own”.
