Vice-president Junqueras with the Mayor of Miami, Tomás Regalado
The Vice-president and Minister of Economy and Finance, Oriol Junqueras, met on Monday with the mayor of Miami, Tomás Regalado, in the capital of the state of Florida and in the framework of an official visit to the United States. In the words of the Vice President, the meeting "has been fruitful" since it served to share synergies and strengthen ties in strategic sectors for the economies of both regions such as water, tourism and health.
 
In terms of tourism, Junqueras pointed out that the port of Barcelona is the second in the world in cruise traffic, behind Miami, and that the Government is working to enhance the port of Tarragona as a new destination. In this sense, the Vice-president announced an upcoming meeting with Regalado in Catalonia since the mayor intends to visit Barcelona and Tarragona in the second half of this May.
 
Other items on the day's agenda included the willingness of both governments to establish ties of cooperation between the faculties of Medicine of Barcelona and Miami, and to use the knowledge of Catalonia in infrastructures and the purification and treatment of water.
 
The referendum in September

The Vice-president also explained that various political matters were also discussed during the meeting. "We explained to Mayor Regalado the objectives that the Catalan government has planned, which includes holding the referendum in September", he stated.

This was the first event on the agenda of the Vice President in his trip to the US, he will will also travel to New York. During the next few days Junqueras, in charge of Economy and Finance of the Catalan Government, will also hold meetings with other institutional representatives, entrepreneurs and investors in order to raise awareness of the economic situation in Catalonia.
