- Ferrocarrils is putting on extra services and doubling the capacity of its trains to cater for the demand generated by the Mobile World Congress
- Contingency plans have been made at stations in coordination with the Mossos d’Esquadra (Catalan police), GSMA and Fira Barcelona to deal with the different mobility issues that might arise
- FGC will once more be the principal means of transport to get to the congress and connect the two Fira Barcelona sites
The Baix Llobregat Metro, which links the two nerve centres of the congress with a journey time of just 6 minutes, becomes a fast line for these 4 days, the most direct way to get to the centre of Barcelona. The reinforcement operation planned by FGC consists primarily of: increasing the frequency of trains on line L8 (Molí Nou Ciutat Cooperativa) by 30 services a day, doubling the capacity of trains from 3 to 6 cars, redesigning mobility in the vestibules of the stations at Pl. Espanya and Europa | Fira to cater for this demand and reinforcing customer service with more staff, signage, special announcements and social networks.
These measures are intended to provide the best possible service to facilitate mobility for congress attendees and regular users of the Llobregat-Anoia line, designed to assure maximum capacity on trains to cope with 8,000 people an hour. Taking into account forecasts for attendance at the congress by Fira de Barcelona and GSMA, the reinforcement measures set out to provide a service for as many users as possible while guaranteeing safety and passenger comfort at all times.
