- The president headed the Mobile Networking Lunch, an event to mark the start of Tech Spirit Barcelona
The president of the Government of Catalonia, Quim Torra, together with the Minister for Digital Policy and Public Administration, Jordi Puigneró, participated today in the Mobile Networking Lunch, an event hosted by Mobile World Capital. “When Catalonia needs everyone to be there, everyone’s there,” said the president. The event marked the start of the Barcelona Tech Spirit, an event jointly organised by Barcelona Tech City and the Government of Catalonia, Mobile World Capital Barcelona, the Barcelona City Council, the Zona Franca Consortium, the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce, the Spanish government, and other institutions linked to the start-up community, which promotes activities and conferences to foster entrepreneurship.
Tech Spirit Barcelona, a one-off event being held this year, is intended to fill the void left by the cancellation of the Mobile World Congress in one of the most important weeks of the year for the local and international digital and technological ecosystem. The aim is to facilitate meetings between entrepreneurs and international investment funds that were already planning to visit Barcelona this week.
President Torra said that the initiative had demonstrated the “institutional resilience and strength of entrepreneurs” in Catalonia. “The shows of unity that we’ve made to move forward are a source of pride.” The head of the executive also said Tech City is a demonstration of the “spirit of Barcelona”, which is one of “freedom, culture and talent”. The president thanked the organisers, stressing that Tech Spirit Barcelona is a bottom-up initiative set in motion by Catalonia’s digital entrepreneurs.
