Catalan president Quim Torra took part in a ceremony held in Madrid this morning to commemorate the victims of the Covid-19 pandemic and recognise the effort made by society. The president expressed “the condolences of the Catalan people [for] this immense tragedy that has left very deep pain in its wake for many families across the state”.

“Society is deeply scarred because there’s a lot of pain,” he said.  The head of the executive, who attended the event in the company of essential workers and relatives of victims, said: “They’ll live on in our memories, and we’ll never forget them.”

President Torra also expressed his “deepest gratitude to all of the people who have cared for us over these months”. He said that “society now has a duty to take care of them”, which means “respecting their work and ensuring that they can always do it under the best possible conditions. Let’s make sure it can never again be said that we don’t respect their work.”
