A total of 25 Catalan entities will receive funding from the European Commission to take part in 24 projects, either by leading them or as participants, within the framework of the Erasmus+ Sport 2020 programme, the community education, training, youth and sport programme which aims to increase the skills and employability of students, as well as modernize education, training and youth work.

25 Catalan Entities Receive Funding from the European Commission to Participate in 24 Projects under the Erasmus + Sport 2020 Programme

The Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA), which belongs to the European Commission, has published the resolution 2020 including projects that will receive European funding in the framework of the Erasmus+ Sport Programme. Therefore, Catalan sports will be represented in a total of 24 estimated projects, led (4) or participated (20) by 25 entities -some of which are part of more than one project-, which will be benefitting from the economic aids this year.

The Erasmus+ Sport Programme will finish the period 2014-2020 with a very positive balance in terms of the participation of clubs, institutions and other entities and organizations in Catalonia. This fact has contributed to the increase of international projection of the Catalan sport and the improvement and growth of the sector in our country.

Since the beginning of Erasmus+ Sport programme in 2014, 63 Catalan entities have obtained European funds for a total of 100 collaborative sports projects, 28 of which were led by a Catalan entity and 72 had Catalan participation.

In 2014, the EU launched the Erasmus+ 2014-2020 programme, and various institutions of the Catalan Government. The threefold objective of the programmes is to address cross-border threats to the integrity of sport (doping, the purchase of parties and violence, intolerance and discrimination), to promote and support good governance in sport and the dual careers of athletes, and to promote sports volunteering, social inclusion, equal opportunities and awareness of the importance of physical activity as an improvement in health, through increased participation and equal access to sport for all.

It should be noted that for the period 2021-2027 the European Commission will begin a new phase of the programme, which will lead to a significant budget increase for sport, as well as changes in the conditions of the calls -currently being defined.
