Consellera Budó

The Government of Catalonia spokesperson opened the founding assembly of representatives of the Council for the Republic, which is taking place in the Palau de la Generalitat and in Brussels simultaneously

Minister for the Presidency and Government of Catalonia spokesperson Meritxell Budó made it clear that "despite the unceasing onslaught that we live through every day, and despite the threats, intimidation, exile and imprisonment, we persevere". She made these comments during the opening ceremony of the founding assembly of representatives of the Council for the Republic, which took place at the Palau de la Generalitat and in Brussels this morning.

Budó remarked that two years ago, the 131st President of the Government of Catalonia, Quim Torra, was responsible for presenting this body, and stated that "a commitment was taking shape, a mandate born out of the determination of 1 October", and that it showed that “we were continuing to move forward, obstinately unbowed, doing what we were told was impossible". "Unfortunately, President Torra has also joined the list of people who have been subject to reprisals", the Minister recalled.

The spokesperson also called on the Council for the Republic to persist "in achieving the executive dream of freedom", and stressed that "we live in a country where civil society is dynamic and has acted as a catalyst for our collective aspirations with its initiatives on many occasions".

After the Minister's speech, the meeting for the constitution of the founding assembly continued in Brussels, from where the secretary of the governing council of the Council for the Republic, Lluís Puig, spoke.
