• The Advisory Council for Sustainable Development of Catalonia Calls for the Creation of a European Climate Change Council in a Joint Letter with Eleven Sustainability Advisory Councils from across Europe
  • The position was sent to the European institutions with the aim to influence the negotiations on the climate law of the European Union

Twelve advisory councils on sustainability and climate change from all over Europe, including the Advisory Council for Sustainable Development of Catalonia (CADS), sent a letter to the European institutions advocating the creation of a Council European Committee on Climate Change.

The letter was sent to the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, to the Minister of the Environment and Climate Action of Portugal (member state currently holding the presidency of the Council of the European Parliament), João Pedro Matos Fernandes, the Vice-President of the European Commission, Frans Timmermans, and members of Parliament involved in the negotiations on the future climate law.

The creation of a European Climate Change Council would enable to “issue independent, cross-cutting and scientifically sound policy recommendations” on climate change mitigation and adaptation, offer a “holistic and cross-sectoral vision”, promote policy coherence and long-term goals” to achieve climate neutrality in 2050, and contribute “to the public debate on important decisions to be taken at a European level” in this area.
