In 2022, Catalonia’s gross domestic product (GDP) reached €270.71 billion, a figure that represents a 5.5% growth in volume, according to the Statistical Institute of Catalonia. The growth of the Catalan economy is equal to the advance estimate for the Spanish economy (5.5%) and is two points higher than the EU-27 average (3.5%).
Domestic demand grew by 3.2% in 2022, 1.1 percentage points less than in the previous year (4.3%), mainly due to an increase in household consumption (4.1%) and gross capital formation (3.8%), while government consumption decreased by 0.1%.
In foreign trade, the results also show a positive trend, with an increase of 14.0% in total exports and 7.5% in total imports. In both variables, tourism components have been decisive in achieving these growth rates.
On the supply side, growth in services (7.9%) and the positive evolution of the construction sector (4.5%) can be highlighted. In contrast, industry shows a rate of change of 2.0% and the agricultural sector shows a fall of 13.9%.
