CONTEMPORANIA High Craftsmanship Barcelona opened its doors this morning with the aim of becoming an international benchmark in the promotion of high craftsmanship. The Government of Catalonia has promoted the first edition of this international fair dedicated to promoting high craftsmanship and excellence in the sector, which is being held from today until Saturday 30 September at the Palau de Pedralbes in Barcelona.
The Minister of Business and Labour, Roger Torrent y Ramió, opened the congress this morning and stated that CONTEMPORÁNEA “is a platform for making Catalonia and Barcelona an international benchmark for the generation and projection of contemporary high craftsmanship”. Torrent also remarked that this fair has three objectives: “to generate new business opportunities for a sector that encompasses almost 10,000 companies in Catalonia;to enhance the prestige and international visibility of Catalan craftsmanship; and at the same time offer citizens the opportunity to enjoy the best contemporary crafts at the national and international level”.
Torrent explained that this initiative is part of the 2022-2025 Action Plan of the Trade, Crafts and Fashion Consortium, which includes specific actions for the internationalisation of crafts. He added, “This complements the recent designation of Catalonia as the host of the European summit for the crafts sector, further enhancing Catalan craftsmanship worldwide”.
The fair hosts the proposals of more than 130 craft and creative professionals from all over the world, as well as an OFF circuit with 240 artists in 5 events distributed around the city of Barcelona. Also in this context, the 3rd Professional Congress of Crafts promoted by the Trade, Crafts and Fashion Consortium will take place tomorrow, this time under the slogan “The World of Luxury Celebrates Crafts:Prescribers, markets and connections”.
