1. Catalan literature and the Catalan publishing sector will have a significant presence at the Frankfurt Book Fair 2023 (18 to 22 October), through a collective stand where industry professionals and major institutions that work to promote and internationally project Catalan literature will be represented

The Frankfurt Book Fair (Frankfurter Buchmesse) returns for another year, and Catalan literature will be represented from 18 to 22 October with its own stand which, under the slogan Catalonia, Land of Books; Barcelona, City of Literature, will host a representation of the publishing and institutional sector. Provision of the stand is one of the actions taken by the Government of Catalonia to promote Catalan literature and the internationalisation of the publishing sector.

In terms of representation of the sector, a total of 37 publishers will be attending the Catalan stand in 2023. In addition to the accredited publishers at the Catalan stand, there will also be 20 publishing groups with their own stand at the fair.

The Frankfurt Book Fair is an unmissable event on the annual work calendar for Catalan publishers and other agents in the book production chain. Every year, the fair brings together some 7,000 companies to present their new products, and it is estimated that 80% of the annual copyright contracts in the international publishing sector are signed over the course of the event. In recent years, the presence of Catalan professionals has increased. It is worth noting that Barcelona represents over 50% of the production and revenue of the publishing industry in Spain.

In the past 21 years, the Government has organised and promoted the presence of Catalan publishers and literature at major international literary events, including the Guadalajara International Book Fair 2004, Frankfurt Book Fair 2007, Salon du Livre in Paris 2013, Gothenburg Book Fair 2014, Bologna Children's Book Fair 2017, Buenos Aires International Book Fair 2019, and the project Spotlight, Books in Catalan, at the London Book Fair in April 2022.
