1. Two Catalan riders make the list of the 50 best skiers and snowboarders in the world who will take part in the off-piste competition on 27 January

The director of the Government of Catalonia Catalan Sports Council, Aleix Villatoro, today presided over the presentation of the Freeride World Tour Baqueira Beret Pro 2024, the off-piste skiing and snowboarding event that will once again inaugurate the circuit of these spectacular sports with the presence of the 50 best skiers and snowboarders in the world. During the ceremony, held at the Palau Robert, Villatoro stated that this event “positions the Pyrenees as a global snow sports venue and consolidates Catalonia as a snow country”.

The best riders in the world will come face to face in the third Freeride World Tour (FWT), which will bring together once again in Baqueira Beret the best riders in the world, including Catalans Abel Moga and Núria Castán.

The event, which will take place on 27 January in the Aranese resort, has the support of the Secretariat General for Sport and Physical Activity of the Government of Catalonia, Movistar, InPost, Naut Aran Town Council, Lleida Provincial Council and Conselh Generau d’Aran, as well as the collaboration of the Royal Spanish Winter Sports Federation (RFEDI) and the Catalan Winter Sports Federation (FCEH).

For Villatoro, the event, which has brought together 5,000 spectators in the two previous editions in Baqueira Beret, is one of the best winter sports shows and represents a “triple success”, as it “positions the Pyrenees as a global snow sports venue”. “We are a sporting country and we are a snow sports country,” added the director. “The Freeride World Tour Baqueira Beret Pro 2024means this discipline is regulated and continues to grow in number of participants in our country, and boosts the quality of our athletes, to whom I wish the best of luck, with the aim of making them excel,” he added.

The event was attended by the two Catalan athletes who will take part in the event, Abel Moga and Núria Castán, who joined the SpainSnow state team coordinated by the renowned Aymar Navarro, now retired. Abel Moga, competing at home, will try to repeat the silver medal of the 2022 edition in skiing, while in snowboarding, Núria Castán, who was second in the first FWT in Baqueira in 2022, has more than 32 podiums to her name, between FWT Pro, Qualifier and Junior. Both athletes have a mixed grant from Esportcat and the Catalan Winter Sports Federation to train at the Sant Cugat High Performance Centre. The third member of the RFEDI team, Beijing ‘22 freestyle Olympic skier Thibault Magnin, will also take part in the event.

The Freeride World Tour Baqueira Beret Pro 2024 will be broadcast live on the website www.freerideworldtour.com and deferred on Esport3, Teledeporte and Movistar TV.
