1. The initiative, promoted by the Catalan Government, the Catalan Council for the Promotion of Peace and the International Catalan Institute for Peace, will last two years and will be open to the participation of all citizens.
  2. The Forum has the dual aim of drawing up a national peace plan and strengthening the Catalan peace movement

The Government of Catalonia, the Catalan Council for the Promotion of Peace, and the International Catalan Institute for Peace (ICIP) are promoting the Catalan Peace Forum, a participatory process that will take place between 2024 and 2025. It has the dual objective of promoting a national peace plan and strengthening the peace movement in Catalonia.

Under the slogan “Less violence, more global justice”, the initiative will promote a space for debate and reflection to bring together social, institutional, academic, and cultural actors from across the territory who share concerns and commitments to the culture of peace.

Furthermore, the project will enable the identification of potential collaborations, the construction of a common narrative on how we understand peace, and thus increase the social and political impact of the actions that both the Government of Catalonia and other public (Catalan Parliament, town and city councils, provincial councils, regional councils, and the Barcelona Metropolitan Area (AMB)) and private entities may carry out.

To facilitate citizen involvement, the Forum is organised around five thematic pillars: peace culture, security and justice, armed conflicts, global challenges, and women, peace, and security. At the same time, three channels have been created to facilitate participation: ten deliberative sessions in the four provinces of the country; self-managed sessions driven by individuals, entities, and institutions interested in delving into the thematic pillars; and the option of participating online through the website participa.gencat.cat.

The strategy for promoting peace, a priority of the Master Plan for Development Cooperation 2023-2026

The Master Plan for Development Cooperation 2023-2026 is the document that guides the Catalan Government’s development cooperation policy.

In this plan, the Government of Catalonia commits to developing a strategy for promoting peace for the period 2023-2026. Specifically, the plan proposes a more integrated approach between development, promoting peace, humanitarian action, and global education.

In this regard, the Executive is collaborating with all levels of administration and Catalan civil society to establish local, regional, and global alliances that promote a culture of peace.
