This morning, the Minister held a meeting with the Executive Secretary of the World Water Association, Alan AtKisson, to exchange and consolidate knowledge and experiences in the water sector.

Specifically, Serret explained the Catalan Government’s management of the drought currently experienced by Catalonia and the plans for future episodes that may occur. AtKisson and Serret confirmed the importance of multilevel collaboration to optimise water use and anticipate future drought situations. “We have to work at the European, worldwide and international level to address common challenges, such as the impact of the climate crisis in the Mediterranean”, Serret said in a press conference after the meeting.

In this regard, the Minister was also keen to present the Mediterranean macroregion initiative, a project led by the Catalan Government, which aims to bring together stakeholders from both shores to respond to the climate emergency: “We have shared best practices and the intense work carried out in planning and working with the different social and economic stakeholders to tackle this challenge”.

At the meeting, the Minister for Foreign Action highlighted the increase in the budgetary amount allocated by the Catalan Government to combat drought and water scarcityMore than 1 billion euros which will enable the Catalan Government to continue working intensively to overcome drought, “but above all with a view to being more resilient in the future”, remarked the Minister.
