- The head of the Executive spoke at the institutional closing of the event marking the first anniversary of the AstraZeneca Global Hub in Barcelona, which took place at the Gran Teatre del Liceu
During the institutional closing of the first anniversary of the AstraZeneca Global Hub in Barcelona, the President of the Government highlighted that the company’s announced investment of 1.3 billion euros and up to 2,000 high-quality jobs “represents the most significant investment in science and knowledge that Catalonia has received”.
The head of the Executive recalled that “this investment has not come by chance” but is “accompanied by institutional efforts” and is possible thanks to the “assets we have in Catalonia” that must be valued.
Aragonès emphasised that “we are a leading country in biomedical research” and “the ecosystem of science and knowledge in the field of life sciences is extraordinary”, thanks to the fact that “we have made concerted efforts for many years” and have “top-level infrastructure”, as well as a “long-standing tradition in the biomedical, pharmaceutical, and healthcare industry”.
Pere Aragonès congratulated the company and expressed his gratitude for “its strategic commitment to science and research in Catalonia”.
The Hub was inaugurated in March 2023 with the aim of providing a reference point in scientific innovation and making it one of the largest centres of clinical excellence in Europe, supporting advancements in treatments that address unmet patient needs. The project, supported by the Government of Catalonia, helps to consolidate Catalonia’s role as a world leader in scientific research.
