Minister Garriga attends the international première of Això no és Suècia (This is not Sweden), which opens the official section of Canneseries

  1. The series Això no és Suècia will compete for the best series award at the Cannes International Series Festival
  2. The Government of Catalonia will also be present at Cannes through a Catalan Films stand at the MIPTV international market

The Minister for Culture, Natàlia Garriga, has accompanied the Catalan audiovisual industry in Cannes, France, where the Catalan series Això no és Suècia will compete for the best series award at the Canneseries International Series Festival, in the seventh edition of the event. The original production by Aina Clotet and Mar Coll was financed by the Ministry of Culture, through the Fiction Series Fund, a pioneering and exceptional public fund for Catalan fiction series with a budget of 1.5 million euros per project.

Only 8 of the 600 series from all over the world enter the official Canneseries competition. The Catalan series has become a true benchmark in terms of European co-production and sustainability and has been very well received since its release, with awards such as the Prix Europa Award for the best TV fiction series of 2023, awarded by the European Parliament in Berlin.

MIPTV and the Catalan audiovisual industry at Cannes

In addition to Canneseries, MIPTV, the leading international market for television content, returns to Cannes from 5 to 10 April. This year’s edition will also feature the presence of the Ministry of Culture, through its brand for the internationalisation of the Catalan audiovisual industry, Catalan Films. It will have a stand at the market available to Catalan companies, with a space for meetings and, as usual, will offer information and give visibility to the Catalan audiovisual industry on the market and its contents.

This year, the Catalan delegation will comprise around 40 companies, including producers, distributors, platforms, sales agents, etc.
