The Catalan company TMCOMAS has opened its first foreign subsidiary in France. The company, which specialises in mechanical and surface engineering, has opened up in Nantes, from where it will serve customers in southern Europe.

TMCOMAS received support from the Government of Catalonia in its French expansion, in the form of a 15,300-euro grant from the Multilocation programme, aimed at promoting the opening of new Catalan subsidiaries abroad.

With 70 years’ experience in the sector, TMCOMAS offers repair services for dynamic equipment, high-tech coatings (thermal spraying), precision mechanics and special welding, among others. With the start-up of the subsidiary in France, under the name Comas Turbomachinery (CTM), the company is expanding its business line to offer a global maintenance solution to customers in southern Europe.

The company’s CEO, Georgina Comas Vieta, points out that the decision to open the company’s first subsidiary in France is explained “by the proximity of a market in which we were already working a lot and which we know, as well as doing it together with a reliable local partner”. This subsidiary, she says, “will also enable us to carry out long-term maintenance contracts and on-site operations in addition to the usual in-houserepairs”.

In addition to its core business, since 2020 TMCOMAS has had its own approved training centre, Comastech, which specialises in industrial mechanics and mechatronics in order to respond to the generational succession within the metallurgical industry. In these four years, intake has increased from the first class of 8 students, to the current class of 80, with a dual training programme to offer real experience in companies. In addition, some of these students have scholarships financed by the Fundació Comas, created by the company itself with the aim of promoting the learning of trades and continuing to increase the availability of talent for the industry.
