- More than 4,000 athletes will take part in the great festival of Catalan national teams, which will be held from 29 August to 13 October at 20 different venues, and will kick off with the GoldenCat roller hockey competition
- More than 30 sports federations will schedule events to build expectation
With its fourth edition, Catalan Sports Week, organised by the Generalitat de Catalunya and the Union of Sports Federations of Catalonia (UFEC), is consolidated as a major sporting events in Catalonia.
From 29 August to 13 October, more than 4,000 athletes from 34 countries will take part in competitions in more than 30 different sports (including football, basketball, volleyball, roller hockey, baseball, sailing, cycling, cricket and boxing). The Catalan national teams will once again be the stars of an event that has an enormous international renown and which will be held at a total of 20 venues throughout Catalonia, with the bulk of the competitions taking place in the province of Barcelona.
Catalonia is therefore returning to the international stage to show the world the excellence of its sportspeople, its high-level sports facilities and its federative prestige through the Catalan national teams.
The Secretary General for Sport and Physical Activity of the Government of Catalonia, Anna Caula, said that “Catalan Sports Week explains the essence of our sporting fabric and our sporting soul, which is very much our own. We welcome all those people who come to compete on our home ground and show them what we Catalans are like and our excellence in organising events, but it also helps us to learn through new ways of competing”.
The GoldenCat roller hockey tournament
The 4th Catalan Sports Week will kick off with the 3rd edition of the GoldenCat International Open, an international roller hockey tournament recognised by World Skate that brings together the best teams in the world in both the men’s category (Catalonia, Portugal, France and Italy) and in the senior women’s category (Catalonia, Portugal, France, Italy and Argentina). The tournament was officially presented today and the list of Catalan players called up to take part in the women’s competition was announced.
